In general UVOS uses a standard SAML protocol for communication with consumers (e.g. a Unicore/X server or UNICORE Rich Client VO plugin). As this protocol is not modified between subsequent versions you can use every complaint consumer with every UVOS server version. Of course it is best to use the newest server version as it contains latest fixes and improvements.
The situation is more complicated when using the management clients (both VOManger and UVOS CLC) or UVOS server web modules (as VO Applications and Web Authentication).
In special cases check also particular module documentation - it may contain additional information on this topic.
The general rule is that server version x.y[.?] is compatible with any other client of version x.y[.?]. So typically if the first two numbers are the same you are on the safe side. The table below lists all fully compatible versions.
In the most cases you can use the older client with the newer server or even vice versa. However some problems may occur and note that this is not officially supported.
